Mrs. Bernice Lee Godwin Sheffield, age 86, of Barnesville passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at her residence. Daughter of the late Mr. James Godwin and the late Mrs. Lillie May ‘Big Mamma’ McElroy Godwin, she was also preceded in death by a son, James ‘Jimmy’ Sheffield. She was born in Cleburne County, Ala., but had lived in Barnesville for most of her life. Mrs. Sheffield was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Horace Levi Jackson Sheffield; two daughters, Judith Sheffield Brock (and Emory) and Sheila Sheffield Milner; five grandchildren, Patrisha ‘Patches’ Mongeon (and Mike), Christopher Brock (and Charity), Jillian Brazier (and Rick), Jeremy Worthy (and Lacy) and Jennifer Neal (and Keith); nine great-grandchildren, Jacob Brock, Chloe Brock, Logan Brock, Dawson Brazier, Bella Brazier, Lillie Brazier, Brantley Worthy, Laura Grace Worthy and Garrett Neal (due July 11, 2012); numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and their families. Funeral services for Mrs. Bernice Sheffield will be conducted Friday, June 15, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Calvary Baptist Church in Barnesville. Interment will be held Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the Hollywood Cemetery in Tallapoosa, Ga.
