Two big games, two big wins on the local baseball diamonds Tuesday as Lamar County downed Putnam County 8-5 in prep action at Aldora Field while Gordon ripped 25th ranked Georgia Perimeter 15-5 in a collegiate contest at the Highlander Athletic Complex.The Diamond Trojans broke open a one-run game with four runs in the fourth on the way to improving their overall record to 13-7 for the season. Lamar is 7-4 in Region 4AA, tied for third place with Crawford County who they will host on Monday. The Trojans will travel to Zebulon Friday to take on ninth ranked Pike County. The Pirates are undefeated and the top team in 4AA play. The Highlanders saw an early 3-0 lead evaporate on a Perimeter grand slam in the third but rebounded to rout the Jaguars in seven innings and pull within a half game of GPC for the GJCAA lead. Gordon (25-17, 12-4) and Perimeter (29-11, 13-4) will resume their four game conference series with a single game in Covington Friday and a twinbill Saturday, also in Covington. More baseball Wednesday afternoon as the junior varsity Diamond Trojans (6-4) host Howard for a doubleheader beginning at four o’clock.
