The top spot in the Region 5AA standings and all-important seeding for post season play will be on the line tonight night when the Lamar County Trojans battle the Callaway Cavaliers at Trojan Field.’¨’¨Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.’¨’¨This will be the biggest game yet in the short history of Trojan Field. Georgia High School Football Daily lists it as one of the top 10 game in the state for this weekend. GHSFD had this to say about the contest: Callaway at Lamar County When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Trojan Field, Barnesville Records, rankings: Callaway is 4-2 overall, 4-0 in Region 5-AA; Lamar County is 4-1, 3-0. Neither team is ranked. Last meeting: Callaway won 56-7 in 2008. Three things to know:  Lamar County, 1-9 last season, is perhaps the most improved team in Class AA. It has avenged three losses with point swings of 39, 46 and 46 points from the previous year. Lamar County quarterback Mike Bloodster has thrown for 627 yards and six touchdowns without an interception. He also has rushed for 355 yards. Callaway has the best one-two punch in the region in FB/LB Randy Bailey, a Dandy Dozen pick of the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, and QB Quan Bray, a junior with SEC offers. Callaway is 4-2 overall and 40 in the region. Lamar is 4-1 overall and 3-0 in region action. In addition, the Fox5 sports team from Atlanta will be on hand, according to director Chip Zeller. “Tell your friends to make some High5 Sports banners. We’re coming to Barnesville tomorrow night for your game. Enough Lamar County fans contacted us and we decided to change our original plans in order to cover your big game. Look for our camera,” Zeller said Thursday. Lamar had last week off to prepare for the Cavs.’¨’¨Talk of the post season is heady stuff for the Trojans who got blown out by the Cavs 567 last year in LaGrange en route to posting a 1-9 mark. Callaway is currently riding a 14-game region winning streak. ’We have a lot to prove against this team with the way we went out and performed against them last year,’ Trojan head coach Jason Strickland said. Callaway fields a run-oriented offense that bases out of the I-formation and runs a lot of option. The key cog there is quarterback Quan Bray.’¨’¨’He is one of the best athletes in the state and is being recruited by just about every big school in the south,’ Strickland said. Defensively, the Cavs base out of a four-man front and bring a lot of pressure with stunts and blitz packages.’¨’¨’Their defensive front is as good as anybody’s and, if you let those guys get going, it can be a long night. They do a very good job of confusing offensive lines,’ Strickland reported. The winner of tonight’s showdown will take command of the region race and, barring collapse, enjoy home field advantage in the first round of the state playoffs. Region 5AA is matched up with Region 8AA for the first round. The first place team hosts the fourth seed from Region 8AA while the second place team hosts the third seed.’¨’¨Region 5AA’s third and fourth seeds travel to play the top seeds from the north. At present, Jefferson, North Oconee and East Jackson are tied atop the 8AA standings at 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the region.’¨’¨The fourth seed, Fannin County, is 3-3 overall and 2-3 in region action ‘“ a big drop off. Strickland and the Trojans are counting on their fans packing the new stadium and making some noise. ’We need to have that place rocking tonight,’ the coach concluded.’¨
