Two Lamar County wrestlers and the Trojan basketball team are involved in tournament action this weekend.Trojans Going to State: The Trojans ran away from the Monticello Hurricanes 71-59 in the region semifinal Friday night and will play for the region title at 8:30 p.m. in Roberta. The Trojans have clinched home court advantage for the state playoffs and will host a game here Wednesday.Wrestlers Alex Gardner and Cedric Dumas are competing in the state wrestling tournament Friday and Saturday at the Macon Coliseum. They are coached by Jeff Sloan and Anthony Gubbels.The Trojan basketball team has advanced to the semifinal round of the Region 4AA basketball tournament. Lamar plays Monticello Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Crawford County. A win would propel them to the final to face the winner of tonight’s matchup between Crawford County and NE Macon – most likely the highly ranked Crawford squad.A loss would put them in them into the losers bracket where they would play the NE Macon-Crawford loser in a game to determine third or fourth place.If the Trojans finish first or second, they will host a state playoff game here Wednesday, Feb. 18. If they finish third or fourth, the will open state tourney play on the road against a Region 3AA squad. The Trojans are coached by Prelvis Paster, Martis Ferguson and Justen Chambers.Also ongoing this weekend is the Trojan Cup soccer tournament at Trojan Field. See related story below.
