Billy Joe Sykes

Mr. Billy Joe Sykes, age 90, of Milner, passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 in a Spalding County healthcare facility.He was born September 19, 1923 in Pell City, Ala., to the late Mr. George Leroy Sykes and Mrs. Nellie Mize (Sykes). Mr. Sykes is also preceded in death by his son, Billy Wayne Sykes; and by a brother, Sam Sykes. Mr. Sykes retired from the state of Georgia Department of Transportation as a surveyor and was a veteran, having served in the’U.S. Army.Survivors include his wife, Edith Sykes of Milner; a daughter, Debi (and Bob) Zellner of Culloden; stepchildren, Priscilla Conger of Spanaway, Wash., Carol McDaniel of Norcross, Lynn Wilson (and Randy) of Cataula and Janet Stackhouse of Mirara Beach, Fla.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Funeral services for Mr. Billy Sykes will be conducted from the graveside on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 at 4 p.m. in Lamar Memory Gardens with Rev. Franklin Gibson officiating.
