Emergency personnel rescued an engaged couple from rain-swollen Potato Creek Wednesday afternoon.Sheriff’s deputies and eight or nine volunteers went through the woods behind a home at the very end of Plantation Road to reach the creek where Amy Holt and Christopher Parks were in distress on the water.Plantation Road is off Hwy. 18 near the Lamar County line.Holt told the Journal-Reporter she and her fiance got out on the water on air mattresses with paddles.”We were fine going downstream…we were not thinking that getting back home would be a problem,” Holt said.Instead, the air mattresses starting losing air and Parks got in the water to drag Holt back. Holt also eventually entered the water. When they could no longer make progress, they shouted for help.”God watched over us. I feel stupid for doing it now but I m glad it was us instead of some kid somewhere doing it and it being worse,” Holt said.
