UPDATE: ARREST MADE The City of Barnesville Police Criminal Investigation Division, Lamar County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, Milner Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation worked diligently to gather information in the recent bomb threats that occurred on May 15, 2016. On May 16, 2016, after an extensive review of phone records, a person of interest was discovered. The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office made contact with Lagarious World at his Johnstonville Road residence. While at the residence, Sheriff Deputies and Investigators found several marijuana plants being grown by World. He was transported to the Barnesville Police Department for further investigation. After interviewing Mr. World, warrants are pending for seven counts of False Public Alarm for the City of Barnesville and one count of False Public Alarm for the City of Milner. Lamar County Sheriff’s Office will also be seeking warrants for possession of marijuana/manufacturing. Chief Keadle would like to personally thank Sheriff Brad White and his Deputies, Chief Jake Sutton, City of Barnesville Fire Department, Lamar County Fire and Rescue, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations and the Officers for the City of Barnesville for all of their hard work. Captain Al Moltrum Barnesville Police Department *********** The threats were made to employees answering the phones at the businesses. Two who received calls described the voice as sounding like a white male with a deep voice who used profanity. “This mother******* is about to blow up. Get out of the store. You have two minutes until it blows,” he told one victim. The calls, in order of dispatch by the 911 center, were to Roses, Family Dollar, CVS (all in Barnesville), Dollar General in Milner, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut and Hot Shot. The first call came in at about 6:45 p.m. Though they were not threatened as rumored on social media, Hardees and Giant Mart in Barnesville were evacuated due to their proximity to Family Dollar. Though the threats are likely hoaxes, they must be treated seriously. Manpower and equipment have been stretched dangerously thin and response personnel for legitimate calls in the interim must be rationed. Just before 8:15, the first bomb sniffing canines arrived in Barnesville and were directed to clear businesses that would still be open first. The dogs are from the Bibb County sheriff’s office. GBI personnel also arrived and were at work attempting to trace the phone calls. These were active scenes at 8:27 p.m. Sunday. UPDATE: Pizza Hut was cleared and reopened at 8:47 p.m. UPDATE 2: McDonalds, Hot Spot, and Family Dollar were cleared by 9 p.m. Dollar General in Milner was cleared at 9:20 p.m. UPDATE 3: CVS was cleared at 9:36 p.m. Laura and Walter Geiger and Cade Lancaster contributed to this report.
