An endowment to honor the late Ray Brinkley and his wife Margie of Barnesville has been established at Gordon State College by their children. The fund will support a scholarship to a deserving student accepted into the Gordon State College School of Education.Ray Brinkley was an alumnus of Gordon, and all three of his children are graduates. All of his grandchildren attended or graduated from Gordon. Three of his children and one of his grandchildren chose to become teachers.’Gordon has had a great impact on our family. Not only have we benefitted academically, but the military education our father received here was a big help to him as a soldier in the Korean War,’ said Brinkley’s daughter, Amanda Buice. ‘The scholarships available to us through the Gordon State College Foundation and the affordability of Gordon made it possible for us to stay at home for part of our education and stretch our budgets for college much farther.’ ’Our parents always stressed the value of education to us and to others whom they helped support along the way. They always felt that all of society benefits from an education populace so this is a fitting tribute to them,’ said Deanna Turner. The Gordon State College Foundation has more than 109 endowed scholarships to support deserving students.’Not only is this a fitting tribute to the Brinkleys, but a great example of the difference Gordon has made to generations in this region,’ said Gordon State College President Kirk A. Nooks. ‘Gordon has a great story, and a great past and gifts like this one will take Gordon into its bright future.’
