Budget still on hold

With more variables coming into play, Lamar County commissioners have put off final approval of the 2012 budget until October at the earliest. Changes since the last workshop include addition of $500,000 in Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax to pay down debt, the .86 millage increase, raising library funds to $50,000 and including 100% payment of employee benefits. This raises the bottom line back to $8,371,816 with $118,000 in discretionary funds. ’The benefits are something that’s yet to be decided,’ said budget consultant Cheryl Idol. ‘We haven’t got any insurance quotes yet, but we expect them shortly. We’ll call it done when we get the numbers on major medical insurance.’
