By Sherri EllingtonThe 41st annual Barnesville Buggy Days will kick off the weekend of Sept. 13 with the Miss Buggy Days pageant and window decorating contest. From there, almost anything goes as the community joins in its biggest festival of the year.Registration for the window decorating contest is due at the Chamber of Commerce office by Thursday, Sept. 4, at 12 noon. Judging will take place Saturday, Sept. 13. The theme is Nothing is more American than Barnesville Buggy Days.The first place winner will receive $75. Second place will get $50 and third place will get $25. All will receive ribbons for display.The Almost Anything Goes Games will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the football stadium. Admission and participation is free.Teams will consist of 16 members: five men, five women and six children ages 8-14. The ages of the children must vary to include younger and older children. Each team member is to wear the same color T-shirt as decided by team captains. Each team member must wear a participation armband; no one will be allowed on the field without an armband except event workers.Forms must be turned in to the chamber office by 5 p.m.Friday, Sept. 5. There is a limit of 10 teams. Those with more than 16 members must split into separate teams. Captains can choose to be on the team or not but if they take part in one event they have to take part in all events for adults.Teams turning in forms after the deadline may be turned away. Captains must pick up armbands before the event. Each team will only receive 16 armbands for participating members. There will be a team captain meeting at 6 p.m., 30 minutes before the event. Team members will be identified before the event starts so they need to arrive early as well.The chamber will present the annual Miss Buggy Days contest Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Lamar County Fine Arts Center, with younger contestants signing in at 9 a.m. and the older ones at 5 p.m. The winners in all age groups will get to ride in the Buggy Days parade on Sept. 20, along with other events through the coming year.Admission is $5 per person with children ages 5 and under free. One parent is admitted free with each contestant.The annual Buggython Road Race, which benefits Lamar County schools athletics, will begin bright and early Saturday, Sept. 20. Entry fees are $18 for adults and $15 for children ages 12 and under by Sept. 5. On the day of the race the prices will be $20 for adults, $17 for 12 and under. The two mile walk is $10 either way. Registration fees are not refundable.Late registration and packet pickup is at 7 a.m. The race begins at 8 a.m. at Houston Street on the north side of Summers Field.
