Burousas home destroyed by fire

By Tamara Sharman and Jennifer Taylor The Caldwell Bridge Road home where Teresa Burousas allegedly shot and killed her husband, 61-year-old Buzz Burousas, was destroyed by fire overnight. Only a charred skeleton remained of the still smoldering house Monday morning. Pike County fire chief Danny Henderson has called in the state fire marshal’s office to determine the cause of the blaze. The fire marshal’s office was expected to arrive at the scene today, Henderson said. One investigator, who asked not to be identified, told our sister publication, The Pike County Journal-Reporter, the fire is definitely suspicious and the expectation is arson will be confirmed. Seven or eight fire units from various stations battled the fire after the alarm was received at approximately 9 p.m. Sunday. The home, located in a secluded, wooded area, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. That is not unusual due to the rural nature of the area, Henderson said. When asked if officials considered the blaze suspicious despite not yet knowing the fire’s cause, Henderson replied, “We are viewing this like any other structure fire.” Sheriff Jimmy Thomas referred questions about the blaze to fire officials. Teresa Burousas, 46, has been jailed since July 31. She is charged with murder for allegedly shooting her husband in the head and torso.
