B’ville voters to decide on Sunday package sales

By Sherri Ellington Sunday sales of package alcohol could be coming to Barnesville ‘“ if citizens vote for it in an upcoming election. Under the current plan, no pouring sales would be allowed. Councilwoman Anne Claxton broached the subject of an alcohol referendum for the second time at the May 7 city council meeting, saying she is still being approached by convenience store owners about the subject. ’Citizens have the right to decide whether they want it,’ Claxton said. Her motion to draw up a resolution to draft the referendum, as allowed by state law, for possible approval at the next meeting, passed 4-1 with councilman Mark Stone opposing. ’Six days to purchase alcohol is enough,’ said Stone. ‘Sunday is fine just like it is.’ No convenience store owners have been before council to ask for the change publicly.
