Byars, Steele serving on Ferst’s state board

Jason Byars and Dr. Julie Steele are currently serving on the Ferst Foundation For Childhood Literacy State Board. Byars has also served as chairman of the state board. Byars is vice president of business development at Mas Energy LLC, an energy development firm. He has nearly 20 years of sales, business development and project management experience in the energy industry. He is the son of Susan Byars and the late Tony Byars of Barnesville. He is a graduate of Georgia Tech. Dr. Julie Steele currently serves as principal of Lamar County Middle School. Both members are representative of the Barnesville community and are advocates for childhood literacy. Children registered for the Ferst Foundation literacy program receive age-appropriate books mailed to them at home every month until their fifth birthday. ’We are so proud of Dr. Julie Steele and Jason Byars who are currently serving on the Ferst Foundation For Childhood Literacy State Board,’ said Lynda Brutz. ‘By mailing a new book every month along with supplemental material to foster a language-rich environment in the home, FFCL upholds its commitment to provide early learning opportunities with the hope of breaking the cycle of poverty and illiteracy.’ The Ferst Foundation’s vision is to afford the best chance to every child to succeed in school, and in life, and to help develop an educated, productive and competitive work force. To sign up a child, fill out an application at the Barnesville-Lamar County library.
