Cab driver’s alleged killer gets trial date, venue change

A change of venue was granted and a trial date set Thursday when the alleged killer of local cab company owner John Dixson appeared in court. Jamarris Latuan (Man) Williams, 24, appeared before Judge Bill Fears. Judge Fears agreed with the prosecution and defense that Williams’ trial should be moved out of Lamar County in that Dixson was very well known in the community. After a break to check multiple calendars, Judge Fears signed an order to try Williams beginning Nov. 4 at the justice center in Monroe County. Any additional motions in the case will be heard in Lamar superior court on September 17. Williams is charged with malice murder, three counts felony murder, armed robbery, two counts aggravated assault and hijacking a motor vehicle. He allegedly summoned Dixson and his cab, stabbed his victim and left him to die in a ravine off Yatesville-Forsyth Road in southeast Lamar County on Nov. 16, 2012. Williams was arrested shortly after the murder and has been jailed since.
