Caldwell to seek house seat

Former Griffin circuit superior court judge Johnnie L. Caldwell, Jr. has qualified to run for state representative in District 131. Caldwell will run as a Republican for the seat being vacated by Billy Maddox. Ryan Christopher is also seeking the Republican nomination for that seat. Additionally, as he previously announced, Kent Kingsley, former chairman of the Lamar County commission, will run against incumbent District 3 U.S. Congressman Lynn Westmoreland. Local candidates who had qualified by 2 p.m. included incumbent coroner Jim Smith and Frank Usher who is seeking the office of sheriff as a Democrat.
