Camden Co. seeking more head coach applicants

Camden County High School will reportedly repost its head football coaching vacancy in hopes of attracting additional candidates after the top four candidates removed themselves from consideration for the job. Lamar head coach Franklin Stephens was considered the frontrunner for the job at one time. The Tribune-Georgian in St. Mary’s is reporting the school is still searching for the successor to former head coach Jeff Herron who moved on to Prince Avenue Christian in Athens. The newspaper quoted Camden athletic director Gary Blount, who is on the head coach search committee, as saying he favored seeking more applicants after the top four candidates dropped out. ”Every one of them, the program attracted them,” Blount said, “but other factors made the fit unworkable.” Coach Stephens is in Kentucky at a camp with his staff and unavailable for comment, according to school superintendent Dr. Bill Truby.
