Candidates forum on tap July 8

Candidates in two races on the ballot in the July 22 general primary runoff will square off in a candidates forum July 8 at the Barnesville Civic Center. The event, sponsored by the chamber of commerce and Lamar County Farm Bureau, will begin at 6 p.m. Two candidates locked in a heated battle for the Republican nomination for one of Georgia’s two U.S. Senate seats, David Perdue and Jack Kingston, were invited but declined. Two of the four candidates in the runoff in the race for State Superintendent of Schools will take part, according to chamber president Marshall Hooks. They are Democrat Alisha Morgan and Republican Richard Woods. Also confirmed for the event are Republicans Marty Harbin and David Studdard who are locked in a race for the nomination for the District 16 post in the Georgia Senate. There is no Democrat in the race so the winner in this contest will take the job. The chamber is seeking questions for the candidates. If you have one or need more information on the forum, call the chamber office at 770-358-5884.
