‘Carrera Kids’ strut their stuff

BY KAY S. PEDROTTI They drummed. They danced. They grinned. Best of all, they shone like the stars they have become. The 47 students in the Carrera program at Lamar County Activ- ity Center wowed an audience of parents, friends, board members, city officials and others at the program’s luncheon finale last Thursday. On surplus plastic buckets from lunchrooms and hardware stores, the ‘drum line’ made toe-tapping and heart-stirring cadences, as the step dancers proved their expertise at synchronizing stomps and hand-claps. When the 11 students in the ballet class took center stage for their performance, the only male in the troupe showed his ability as a scaled-down pirate Jack Sparrow.
