Virginia Carter, a third-generation proprietor of Carter’s Drugs on Main Street, says she hopes that the pending end of the Carter’s era ‘will serve as an example to people of what can happen when they don’t shop locally.’She said the firm had done everything possible to stay open, but could not justify continuing. The inventory and prescriptions have been sold to Hines Pharmacy, and the Carter’s staff, including Carter, Debbie Haywood and Dana Cox, will be at Hines for several weeks to help with the transition, Virginia said.
