The annual Blue & White scrimmage is set for Aug. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Trojan Field. Admission is a case of water or sports drink.

The LC school system is teaming with the sheriff’s office, Barnesville police department, fire personnel, EMS and other agencies to conduct a full scale school safety exercise Friday morning. Highway 18 and Burnette Road near the schools will be closed during the period from about 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m.
There will be a large presence of law enforcement officers, fire apparatus, emergency vehicles and other first responders in the area. All this is part of the drill!
“This training is designed to strengthen emergency response coordination among our schools and first responders in the event of a real emergency. This exercise is only a training event and there is no threat to the public,” school superintendent Dr. Jessica Watson said.
The fine folks at the Lamar County recreation department have multiple events on tap this summer for kids of all ages.
Led by valedictorian Hayden Cherry, salutatorian Matthew Blevins and a host of honor graduates, the LCHS Class of 2026 will close out their high school careers at graduation Saturday morning.
The ceremony begins at 9 a.m. at Trojan Field.
The school system anticipates that 192 seniors will graduate. Over 25 of those seniors have received college scholarships ranging from $500 to $2000.
Some 54 students have GPAs of 3.5 or higher and 24 of those have GPAs above 3.75. Additionally, 85 seniors are eligible for the HOPE scholarship.
At least 64 seniors have been accepted into a college or university and over half the seniors have taken one or more dual enrollment classes.
“We have students who have earned technical certificates in welding and others who have completed EMT training. Several have earned credentials to begin work as pharmacy techs right after graduation,” counselor LeslieAnne Williams said.
Additionally, this class set a record for military enlistments but the number has not been finalized.

The Great Futures Gala to benefit the Boys & Girls Club has been scheduled for Saturday June 13 at the civic center. The event begins at 6 p.m. and will include cocktails, a silent auction and dinner.

The LC Lady Trojans are the #4 seed in the Class A, Div. 1 state soccer playoffs and host #13 Worth County in the Sweet 16 here Tuesday. First touch is set for 5:30 p.m. at the high school field.
LC advanced by blanking Coosa 5-0 in round one. \Worth topped #20 Swainsboro 3-0 in the first round. The two teams had no common opponents during the regular season.
A win would propel coach Ricci Jules’ Lady Trojans into the Elite 8 where they would face the winner of the Sweet 16 contest pitting #5 Fannin County against #21 Rabun County. That match is tentatively set for May 4 and would be played here.

The #3 Lady Trojan tennis team is also in the Sweet 16 Tuesday after topping Jasper County 5-0 in round one. They host #14 Brantley County. That match begins at 2 p.m. at the LC courts.

Multiple LC track and field athletes shined at last week’s region meet where the boys finished first and the girls finished second. Many are moving on to the sectionals at Bleckley County May 2.

LC baseball, boys tennis and boys soccer were eliminated from the postseason last week.
