C&D landfill site in foreclosure

By Walter Geiger The long-lingering saga of the proposed C&D landfill in northeast Lamar may have come to an end. State Bank is foreclosing on the land targeted for the unlined landfill which residents and the county fought for over a decade. The land is owned by Canyon Creek, LLC but was previously owned by Spiers Investments and Moore & Crowell, the entity that first proposed the construction and demolition landfill. The two parcels of land make up 323.68 acres. Canyon Creek is in default on a note of which the original principal amount was $1,503,700. State bank acquired the loan following the demise of Security Bank. The legal advertisement for the foreclosure is published in this week’s print edition of The Herald-Gazette.
