The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity in the Community Celebration will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at the E.P. Roberts Center. The theme this year is ;Keeping the Dream Alive through the Dream of Change.;;The community is invited to join the celebration,; said organizer April Smith. ‘Interesting things will be taking place this year.’Individuals, organizations and churches may take part in the parade by marching, driving a car or riding on a float. New this year, the high school band will perform.The celebration will begin at the center and march to the Lamar County courthouse for a short program to honor Dr. King. Commission chairman Jay Matthews will be the keynote speaker.Participants will march back to the center for continuation of the celebration. The keynote speaker there will be Tammy Merritt, director of employee relations/human resources at the William Carter Company.Refreshments will be sponsored by the Dewaine T. Bell Difference Makers, formerly 100 Black Men and Women of Lamar County.For information call Smith at 770-358-3311.
