Census: Lamar growing

Lamar County’s population increased by 15.11% during the period 2000 to 2010, according to U.S. Census data extrapolated by Three Rivers Regional Commission personnel. Lamar County’s 2010 population was 18,317 compared to 15,912 in 2000, an increase of 2405. Of those counted, 65.2% were white, 30.7% were black, 1.9% were hispanic and 1.6% were mixed race. Barnesville’s population rose from 5972 to 6755, an increase of 783. Barnesville was 39.8% white, 56.2% black, 1.9% mixed race and 1.6% hispanic.
