Chamber Golf Tourney a huge success says president Amanda Rose

The Barnesville-Lamar Chamber of Commerce held its third annual golf tournament yesterday at the Morgan Dairy Golf Club. 17 teams played through and the winners are as follows. 1st Place $320.00- Team #7 Lee Gerdes Sonny Trammell Gerral Perace Taylor Jernigan 2nd Place $240.00- Team #4 Will Morgan Mark Farmer Charles Thompson Chuck Thompson 3rd Place $200.00- Team #10 Ronnie Simmons John Walters Dave Womack Carter Pierce Closest to the Pin- Mike Oxford on Hole #13 Closest to the Pin- Tracy Bryan on Hole #2 Longest Drive- Will Morgan on Hole #16 The Golf Committee wanted to give back to the community by presenting an annual award call the Greater Cause Award. The award was created to honor someone in our community who has given back through time and hard work to make a difference. Erin Cook, 2009 Board Chair, presented the 2009 honoree, Oscar Wimberly. The committee also made a contribution of $500.00 to the charity or organization of his choice. He chose the E.P. Roberts Center. Oscar worked for the Lamar County Board of Education for 40 years as an athletic coach and has been volunteering at the E.P. Roberts Center for the past 8 years. Oscar, his wife Nellie and their granddaughter were all in attendance to accept the award. Kayla Brown, Administrative Assistant at the E.P. Roberts Center, accepted the donation on behalf of the organization. ’The event was a big success and I would like to thank all of the committee members, volunteers, sponsors, and Oscar Wimberly for making this tournament one of the best yet’ stated Chamber President Amanda Rose. ‘I look forward to many more years of growth with this tournament and the opportunity to honor more well deserving ‘difference makers’ in our community.’
