Charles ‘Charlie’ Crawford Morgan Jr., age 88, of Douglas, Ga., passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at his residence following an extended illnessMr. Morgan was born on March 7, 1925, in Macon, Ga., to the late Margaret Ruan Johnson and Charles Crawford Morgan Sr. Mr. Morgan was the former superintendent of Lamar County and Coffee County schools. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Mr. Morgan retired from the Georgia Department of Education and the US Department of Education.Survivors include his wife, Leila Banks Morgan of Douglas, Ga.; two daughters, Katherine Morgan (Mike) Gaskins of Douglas, Ga., and Margaret Morgan (Chris) Lewis of Douglas, Ga.; brother, John Ruan Morgan of Macon, Ga.; five grandchildren, Amanda Ruan O’Sullivan of Arlington, Va., Carrie Gaskins (Jason) Batten, Katherine ‘Katie’ Gaskins (James) Horton, Morgan Charles Lewis and Matthew Crawford Lewis all of Douglas, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Ellie Batten, Jacob Batten and Ashlyn Horton; brother-in-law, Peter Louis Banks; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by a sister Margaret Morgan Powell.Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church with Father Curtis Mears officiating. Interment followed at Douglas City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were John Morgan, Mark Morgan, Sam Tift, Kevin Rigg, Matt Ogletree and Scott McEwen. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby’s Treat Shop Comrades, Bobby’s Treat Shop employees, retired teachers, Jimmie Ray Roberson, Robert Tift, Tommy Shepard, Chris Trowell and Dr. Diskin Morgan.Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
