Charlie Gotell

Charlie Gotell, affectionately known as “Junior’, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015. He was born Nov. 2, 1930, in Monticello to the late Felton Gotell and Edie Stone Gotell. He was one of eight sons, five of which preceded him in death: William Gotell, James Gotell, Jimmy Gotell, Andrew Gotell and Raymond Gotell. He moved to Barnesville in 1938 and joined Sardis Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Usher’s Board. Educated in the Lamar County school system, he was a framer and was employed with William Brothers Building Supply for more than 30 years. On February 19,1955, he was united in holy matrimony to Lula E. Zellner. They served together as a team on the Sardis Missionary Baptist Church Ushers Board. To this union was born a son Charlie Clarence Gotell. Survivors include his wife, Lula E. Gotell; son and daughter-in-law, Charlie Clarence (Cheryle) Gotell of Stone Mountain; three grandchildren;seven great-grandchildren; brothers, sisters and their spouses, Frank (Mildred) Gotell of Decatur and Henry Gotell of Atlanta, Ida Mae Gotell of Griffin, Mattie Pearl Gotell of Barnesville, Emma Jones of Atlanta, Sarah Gotell of Atlanta, and Raymond Zellner of Atlanta, Anna Laura Gotell, Francis Gibbon and Florine Montgomery of Thomaston; a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and his church family will also mourn his passing. Services were held Saturday, May 16, 2015 in Sardis Missionary Baptist Church, Barnesville. Rev. Clarence E. Norris officiated. Bentley & Sons Funeral Home, Barnesville had charge of arrangements.
