Citizen of the Year nominees listed

Get tickets this week for the 30th annual Community Awards Banquet. It will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at the Civic Center. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the chamber office until Friday, Jan. 25. No tickets will be sold at the door. The Chamber of Commerce sponsors two awards, the Outstanding Citizen and Businessperson of the Year. The Outstanding Citizen serves as grand marshall of the Buggy Days parade. Nominees for Outstanding Citizen are Steve Andrews, Charles Glass, Leonora Ginn, Raleigh Henry, Octavia Jackson, Dr. Bill Truby, sheriff Brad White and Claudine White. Other organizations are honoring others, including the Rotary Club’s Career Woman of the Year and the fire department’s Britton Cauthen Firefighter of the Year. Farm Bureau will name the Farmer of the Year. The Lions Club offers the Volunteer of the Year Award. The Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award is sponsored by the Dewaine T. Bell Difference Makers. This event will be catered by Flavours by Sodexo at Gordon State College. The menu includes beef tenderloin with madeira pan sauce, Brussels sprout hash, creamed chive potatoes, strawberry spinach salad and chocolate lava cake with fresh berries.
