City employee involved in Thomaston shooting

A Thomaston man who shot and killed his mother in Upson County Wednesday night is employed by the City of Barnesville. No charges are expected against Chris Callahan who shot and killed his mother, 54-year-old Kathy Bridges, after she burst into his home with a shotgun. Bridges was a former cosmetology instructor at Flint River Tech. Callahan is the city’s water and sewer superintendent. Investigators said Bridges made threatening phone calls then went to her son’s house with a shotgun and shovel. She broke several windows in the house with the shovel then hit the kitchen door several times before entering with the shotgun and making verbal threats. Callahan fired two shots from his own shotgun, killing her instantly. Authorities have said the shooting appears justifiable.
