The qualifying period for Barnesville mayoral and council seats began Monday morning and runs through 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 2.UPDATE: At 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, no other candidates had qualified.The election will be held on Nov. 3. Registered voters can cast ballots from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. at the civic center. Absentee ballots and early voting opportunites will be available when ballots are finalized.Up for election are the position of mayor and the council seats representing Wards 1 and 3. The qualifying fee is $72 for mayor and $45 for council seats. Candidates may qualify at city hall.Incumbents mayor Peter Banks, Anne Claxton (Ward 1) and Sammie Shropshire (Ward 3) all qualified early Monday.Check back for news on any opponents who may qualify.
