City settles lawsuit stemming from pedestrians hit, killed by police cruiser

The City of Barnesville has reached a monetary settlement with the mothers of two men who were struck and killed by a Barnesville Police Department cruiser driven by officer Terry Belvin on May 16, 2014. ”This is not considered an admission of liability but a compromise on their doubtful and disputed claims,” city manager Kenny Roberts told the city council Monday night. The mothers of the dead men, Justen Shanard Sullivan and Quentin Byrd, will each receive $500,000 as next of kin after negotiations with Barnesville’s insurance carrier.
