Clarity expected on arson case

The man who officials say confessed to setting fire to his family’s iconic restaurant here last year is expected in Lamar County superior court Thursday. Stephen Neal Brehaut is charged with arson and insurance fraud in connection with a fire that destroyed the Lighthouse restaurant on Old Hwy. 41 in Milner June 10, 2012. Brehaut, co-owner of the business, confessed to setting the fire, according to the state fire marshal’s office. He was reportedly captured setting the blaze on the restaurant’s video security system which somehow survived the inferno. Brehaut has been out on bond since the day after the fire. The restaurant lies in ruins and no clean-up has yet been mounted. There are indications Brehaut, 39, will enter a plea but, earlier this year, he filed motions indicating he plans to pursue an insanity defense in the case.
