Clark granted change of venue

Accused killer Jennifer Clark has been granted a change of venue, moving her trial out of Lamar County. Clark’s trial will begin January 31, 2011 in Butts County. Judge Tommy Wilson granted the motion for change of venue Friday morning after hearing testimony from Herald-Gazette publisher Walter Geiger regarding the newspaper’s circulation in and penetration of the Lamar County market. Also discussed was the popularity of barnesville.com and the comments generated by online coverage of the murder case. The hearing adjourned for lunch at 11:45 a.m. and will reconvene at 1:15 p.m. with continuation of Jackson-Denno proceedings. Clark’s attorney, Suesan Miller, is attempting to suppress statements her client made to law enforcement. Subpoenaed to appear in addition to Geiger were former sheriff’s investigators Steve Burge and Rick McCreary and former sheriff Joe Buice. Clark is accused of beating her estranged husband, Donald Clark, to death with a metal baseball bat, wrapping his head in a plastic bag and dumping his body in a Redbone cornfield where it was found Christmas Eve 2008.
