Cleo Ashworth Boles

Cleo Ashworth Boles of Barnesville, Georgia passed away at the age of 98 on Thursday, February 22, 2017, at the residence of her daughters Dianne Williams and Martha Mackey of Jackson, GA. She was also the mother of LaRue Hand, (Bobby Joe) of Barnesville and Rebecca Huling (Charles) of Mableton, GA. Mrs. Boles was born in Forsyth County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late William Wesley and Dulcnie Nuckolls Ashworth of Suwanee, GA. Mrs. Boles was preceded in death by her husband Eldon Leon Boles, who died in 2011 at the age of 89. They were married 72 years at the time of his death. She’s preceded in death by all her siblings and their spouses; two brothers, Duess ‘Dewey’ Ashworth (Bea) of Suwanee, GA and Willie Lee Ashworth (Lonnie Mae) of Suwanee, GA; a sister, Estelle Ashworth Martin (Clifford) of Hoschton, GA and a son-in-law Paul Williams of Forest Park, GA. She was also preceded in death by all Boles in-laws, father and mother-in-law Claude and Ora Bagley Boles; brother-in-law Wilbur Boles and sisters-in-law Charlotte West Boles, Syvilla Boles Wade (Lois), Ruby Boles Wade (James) and Jessie Lou Boles Carey (S.T.). She attended schools in Forsyth and Gwinnett counties. Mrs. Boles was a 1984 charter member of New Life Baptist Church, Barnesville, GA. For many years she was their eldest church member. She was a homemaker who loved outside tasks such as lawn care, working a vegetable garden or growing her favorite flowers. She was a wonderful fry cook and prepared many meals for company. In her 90s when she was no longer able to do outdoor tasks, she started making costume jewelry for family and friends. She made hundreds of bracelets and necklaces from beads and recycle jewelry pieces. Her survivors include four daughters, LaRue Hand, (Bobby Joe) of Barnesville, Martha Mackey-Gastgeb (Wayne) of Jackson, GA, Dianne Williams (Kenny Fretz) of Jackson, GA and Rebecca Huling (Charles) of Mableton, GA; seven grandchildren, Dana Hand Pass (Grady) of Gainesville, GA, Scott Mackey of Locust Grove, GA, Gregory Mackey (Cathy) of Jackson, GA, Sherry Mackey Dye (Brad Taylor) of Stockbridge, GA, Sonia Mackey Whittaker (Josh Combs) of Locust Grove, Ga, Steven Huling (Rebekah) of Marietta, GA and Kala Huling Munday (Christopher) of Marietta, GA; ten great-grandchildren, Jennifer Mackey Bennett (Steven), Le Ann Mackey, Brittany Pass Swindler (Jon), Andrew Jared Pass, Tiffany Whitaker Parrott (Jason), Scott Crowe (Crissy), Maria Poore Combs (Kyle), Jack Huling, Banks Huling and Carson Munday and four great-great grandchildren, Brooke Bennett, Dreks Crowe, Lily Ann Crowe and Wesson Combs, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home of Buford, GA on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Mrs. Boles’ nephews, Rev. Danny Ashworth and Rev. Winfred Martin. Interment will be at Peachtree Road Baptist Church Cemetery, Suwanee, GA. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 4 p.m.until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
