College consolidations to begin; Gordon spared thus far

For reprint permission, e-mail news@barnesville.com. As covered here last year, University System Chancellor Hank Huckaby has begun his streamlining of colleges and universities via consolidation. Several mergers will be voted on this month. Thus far, Gordon College is not included. Proposed mergers include: Macon State College and Middle Georgia College in Cochran. Gainesville State College in Gainesville and North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega. Waycross College in Waycross and South Georgia College in Douglas. Georgia Health Sciences University in Augusta and Augusta State College, also in Augusta. If Gordon is to be merged – and that remains a big if – it’s mostly likely partner would be Georgia State College and University in Milledgeville.
