Community awards banquet is January 31

The 30th annual Barnesville- Lamar County Community Awards Banquet will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at the Barnesville Civic Center. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the chamber office until Jan. 25. No tickets will be sold at the door. This event will be catered by Sodexo of Fort Valley. The menu includes beef tenderloin with madeira pan sauce, Brussels sprout hash, creamed chive potatoes, strawberry spinach salad and chocolate lava cake with fresh berries. The Barnesville-Lamar County Chamber of Commerce sponsors two awards for this event, the Business Person of the Year Award and the Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award. The deadline for nominations closed Friday. ’This is an important event for our community. It’s a night where many of Barnesville’s most esteemed citizens are recognized,’ president Emily Rowland said. Other organizations are honoring exceptional citizens like the Rotary Club’s Career Woman of the Year and the fire department’s Britton Cauthen Firefighter of the Year. Lamar County Farm Bureau will name the Farmer of the Year. The Barnesville Lamar County Lions Club offers the Volunteer of the Year Award. The Law Enforcement Offi cer of the Year Award is sponsored by the Dewaine T. Bell Difference Makers. For information call the chamber office at 770-358-5884.
