Long little more than a pipe dream, commuter rail service linking Atlanta and Macon has new impetus after a recently released study by the prestigious Brookings Institute. The study recommends stations in seven cities but Barnesville is not included.Even more troubling is the possibility Lamar countians could pay taxes – via multi-county tax allocation or tax improvement districts – to fund trains only to watch them roar through with no opportunity to board them here at home. For more on this story, see the 6.1.2010 print/e-edition of The Herald-Gazette.
