Convicted arsonist in trouble with the law again

A Lamar County man convicted of torching his family’s iconic Milner restaurant in 2012 is in trouble with the law again. Stephen Brehaut was originally sentenced to 20 years on probation. He was also ordered to cleanup the burned out carcass of the building and pay $109,241 in restitution and a $32 per month probation fee under the First Offender Act. Brehaut eventually started a spasmodic clean-up of the building but later halted the work. Brehaut refused to comply with multiple court ordered deadlines and county personnel eventually cleared the site. Brehaut was to pay for that work. Probation officer Jonathan Linder has ordered Brehaut to court Thursday before Judge Bill Fears for violating his probation. According to court records, Brehaut has made no payments on his restitution since Dec. 29, 2014 and is now $6753.17 in arrears. Judge Fears has the option of revoking the FOA status sending Brehaut to prison.
