Cops get stimulus money

With the local crime rate spiraling upward at a dizzying pace, local law enforcement agencies learned last week they are eligible for stimulus funds. The funding, based on population and crime statistics, are available under the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program. The Lamar County sheriff’s offce is eligible for $18,512 while the Barnesville Police Department is eligible for $18,130. The sums are a mere pittance compared to other communities. The Macon Police Department is eligible for $458,209 while agencies in Thomaston-Upson County are eligible for over $70,000.
