On July 2, 2013, at 7:36 p.m., Griffin officers responded to a report of a robbery at Maddox Grocery located at 834 Meriwether Street. According to witnesses, a black male entered the business, struck the clerk in the face and grabbed an undetermined amount of cash from the register drawer. The suspect fled the scene on foot.Less than an hour later, GPD officers responded to another report of a robbery at Family Dollar on West Taylor Street. The suspect once again struck the clerk in the face and took cash from the drawer. While responding to the Family Dollar incident, Corporal Chris Webb observed a suspicious person in the vicinity. Upon speaking with the clerk, he realized that the suspicious person was the suspect involved in the Family Dollar robbery and also met the description of the earlier Maddox Grocery robbery.Corporal Webb, with the assistance of Corporals Trey Williams and Todd Thomas along with Officer Jacob McClenahan, apprehended the suspect after a lengthy foot chase.Griffin Investigators have charged 39 year old Michael B. Daniel with two counts each of robbery and battery. Daniel was recently paroled after serving 21 years on a previous armed robbery conviction. His last known address was listed as 1218 D. F.
