Cops probe drive-by shooting

An unidentified man was lifeflighted Sunday night following a drive-by shooting incident. WKEU in Griffin reports police dispatchers sent officers to 1319 Spellman Ave. where a man was lying in the road. Witnesses told officers an assailant in a red SUV opened fire on the victim, left, returned to the scene and then fled again as officers approached. The unidentified victim was shot in the hip. A lifeflight chopper landed at a nearby fire station to take the victim to Atlanta Medical Center. During the flight, the patient worsened and the chopper was diverted to the trauma unit at Grady. His condition is unknown. Officers found a spent .45 caliber shell casing at the scene and are looking for a red SUV occupied by a black male with a handgun.
