Cops seizing synthetic marijuana

Sheriff’s investigators have begun seizing synthetic or herbal marijuana from convenience stores here in Lamar County. The full press release from the LCSO follows: Major Brad White, Chief Deputy of the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office announced today that under Senate Bill 370 all forms of synthetic marijuana are now illegal. Governor Deal signed the bill into law at 2:00 on Tuesday March 27, 2012. The substance has been sold in convenience stores as Spice, K2, Black Mamba or Potpourri. Use of the substance caused the death of 16 year old Chase Corbitt Burnette of Peachtree City earlier this year. Major White explained that Synthetic cannabinoids contain marijuana like chemical compounds combined with dried vegetation. It can cause psychosis and increase the tendency of violent behavior. The sale of the synthetic drug can result in a penalty of 2-17 years in prison. Sheriff’s investigators started seizing any of the substance found in stores on Wednesday March 28, 2012.
