The Lamar Co. Trojans Baseball Team last played a game on Tuesday, March 24th at Manchester where they logged a 6-4 win. Due to rainy weather, and wet field conditions, the Trojans hadn’t played a baseball game in 13 consecutive days. But, that all changed on Tuesday, April the 6th, when they traveled to Crawford Co. for a Region 5-AA contest with the Eagles on a windy and chilly afternoon. One would think a team in such condition would be somewhat lethargic after days of inactivity. But, not-so as the Trojans pounded the Eagles 15-5 in a convincing fashion. The visiting Trojans struck for 4-runs in the top of the 1st inning, only to see the home team rally for 3-runs in the bottom half of that inning to make the contest close right out of the chute. The Trojans answered, however, with 3-runs in the top of the 2nd, 2-runs in the top of the 3rd, 1-run in the top of the 4th, 2-runs in the top of the 5th, and 3-runs in the top of the 6th to put the Eagles away. The Eagle’s seem to buckle under such athleticism as they could only score two more times in the game – both in the bottom of the 6th. But, it was too little, too late, as the 10-run-rule was invoked to end the game at that point.Senior — pitcher / shortstop — Blane Parker notched the win on the mound for the Trojans, striking-out 7 Eagles, in 6-innings. Crawford Co. saw 2-pitchers work in the game with the starter leaving the mound in the 4th inning. Defensively, the Trojans had solid play, as they committed only 1-error in the game.Offensively, the Trojans had 7 different players hit safely to reach base in the game. But, slugging honors on the nite would go to Junior — Utility Infielder — Devin Couch, as he had a career day at the plate. Couch was ‘no-slouch’ at the plate, as he went 3-3 in the game — with 3-homeruns — and, 4 rbis. Senior — Blane Parker — added a solo shot for good measure. Other Trojan Players with multiple hit games were Trent Nix (2-4), Calvin Adams (2-3), & T.J. English (2-3).The Trojans will resume action on Wednesday, April the 8th, when they travel to Pike Co. for another Region 5-AA contest with the Pirates. First pitch is at 5:30 p.m. In spite of the chilly temperatures on Tuesday, there was a good representation of Trojan Fans that made the trip down to Roberta to support the team.Lamar Co. 15-12-1Crawford Co. 5-6-5
