Four citizens turned out and none offered comment Sept. 1 as the Lamar County commission held a public hearing on its proposed budget.Commission chairman Jay Matthews noted the $8.573 million budget had been cut by 3% from the budget requested by department heads. The budget is down 4% from the previous year.County administrator Wayne Patterson said the Department of Revenue approved the county digest after a meeting earlier in the day in Atlanta with local officials.The commission will officially approve its budget and associated millage rates at its regular meeting on Sept. 8.
