County calls meeting to remove Dziedzic; Peavy weighs in

The Lamar County commission has called a meeting for 10 a.m. Thursday to discuss the removal of tax assessors board chairman Lisa Dziedzic. Also on the agenda is the first reading of an ordinance to reduce the board from five members to three and appoint two new members. The meeting will be held in the commission meeting room, upstairs in the courthouse. According to law, the commission can remove Dziedzic. She can ask a court to intervene but the county does not have to rely on a court order to oust her, county officials said today. In a letter to The Herald-Gazette, former assessor John Peavy was critical of Dziedzic, commissioner George Brown and personnel in the assessor’s office. ”I nominated Lisa to cochairman when she first arrived. I grew up with her parents in Barnesville. I think she and her commissioner friend George Brown have been riding and promoting the wrong horse at the helm of the day to day operation of the assessor’s office. George Brown’s term is up and he’ll have to run again this year,” Peavy wrote. Here is the agenda for Thursday’s meeting: LAMAR COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS SPECIAL CALLED MEETING January 28, 2010 10:00 A.M.
