Lamar County will be getting two 2011 fire trucks, allowing it to have trucks at each station in the county ‘“ plus a spare ‘“ despite retiring two 30-year-old trucks, bought used from DeKalb County years ago, to be used at the new training facility.Commissioners agreed to pay $20,000 down and make five yearly payments of $117,000 a year beginning in 2013 for a total of $530,000. The fire department is slated to get $119,000 a year in SPLOST funds from the county. The fire department will also use at least $30,000 saved in changing plans for the Roberta Drive fire station, which no longer needs administrative offices since the fire department has use of the former water authority offices on Highway 36 West. A tower, brick facades and other amenities will be taken out or redesigned to save the money.**************©The Herald-Gazette/barnesville.com: This information may not be reprinted, broadcast or distributed electronically in any form or fashion without express consent.
