County to contract out mowing work

Following the lead of several other counties, the Lamar County commission agreed last week to contract out right-of-way mowing and litter pick-up on county roads. BCLS of Dacula, Ga. got the contract with a bid of $212,940. The company will pickup litter and mow all areas three times this season. ’We are talking about 273 miles of paved roads, so its a lot. We are doing this in lieu of buying new equipment. It is much, much cheaper to contract it out,’ county administrator Sean Townsend said. Both chairman Charles Glass and commissioner Nancy Thrash pointed out this is a trial. ‘We are hopeful it will work out,’ Glass concluded.
