County to market Grove St. fire station property

The Lamar County commission voted unanimously January 13 to market the property known as the Grove Street fire station. The fire department was forced to stop manning the station last month after severe mold and mildew problems began causing respiratory problems among the emergency medical personnel housed there. The 1.02 acre tract has frontage on Hwy. 341 and is valued by the board of assessors at $81,600. The most likely future home for the fire station is land already owned by the county on Roberta Drive near the sheriff’s department. Locating the facility there would meet conditions required for lower ISO rates countywide. ;
