Cross country team runs in Griffin opener Saturday

The high school’s cross country team looks to make another run at the state meet when they open the season this Saturday at the Spalding Invitational in Griffin beginning at 9 a.m. Top returning runners on the boys team include four seniors. David Henry, Walker Ozier, Daniel Huggins and Brandon Cowart will lead the field with very stiff competition going on in pre-season workouts for the fifth and final spot on the varsity roster. For the first time ever, the girls look to have a complete roster led by returning senior Courtney Coates who was the only Lady Trojan runner on last year’s squad. Other girls’ runners will include seniors Emily Hobbs, Kirsten Fisher, Annie Hudgins and Courtney Allison, a transfer from Pike County. Most of the team’s meets will be on the road but Lamar will host a multi-team meet Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. when they host teams from Mary Persons, Upson-Lee, Jackson, Callaway, Pike County and Marion County.
