Crowd control required after death of six-month-old

Barnesville police had to call on sheriff’s deputies to help with crowd control after a six-month-old girl was found dead in her bassinet Saturday. According to Lamar County coroner Jim Smith, the child died at a home on Kate’s Court. When he arrived at 1:08 p.m., a “big bunch” of people had gathered. Two women were in the home. The mother put the child down for a nap between 9-9:15 a.m. The mother also went to sleep. When she awoke around noon, the baby was unresponsive, Smith said. He identified the child as Justice Marie Anderson. The mother told investigators the child’s father is in prison. GBI crime scene specialist Todd Crosby worked the death and the body was taken to the crime lab for autopsy. Deputies assisted with crowd control but BPD chief Chuck Keadle said he was unaware of any arrests. Smith said there were no immediate signs of foul play.
