A Spalding County man was killed Monday morning when his motorcycle hit a pickup truck on Hwy. 41 in Milner at the Zebulon Road intersection.UPDATE: The dead man has been identified.Due to overwhelming response, I have taken down the photo that accompanied this article. No disrespect was meant to the English family for whom we grieve. Walter GeigerLamar coroner Jim Smith identified the dead man as Larry English, 70, of 3 Bucksnort Road in Spalding County.English was northbound on the four-lane astride a Kawasaki Vulcan when a Ford F-150 pickup eastbound on Zebulon Road apparently pulled out in front of him. English had only a split second to react and could not avoid the truck. He died at the scene. The pickup truck was loaded with the luggage of students from Pike County Middle School who were on their way to FFA camp on Jackson Lake. It appeared that stacked luggage may have inhibited the vision of the female driving the truck. The middle school students were on a school bus just ahead of the pickup truck and did not witness the wreck. Another car full of luggage was also in the entourage. The female driver of that car was an eyewitness to the crash. The accident, which occurred at 10:25 a.m., remains under investigation by the GSP SCRT team.Smith reported English’s body was taken to the state crime lab for autopsy and routine toxicology testing.
